I am 39 years old and desperately want/need to learn to drive. I am very, very nervous. Ideally, what I would like to do, is have some lessons in an off-road environment so that I can gain confidence in actually handling a car, before going on the roads. Does anyone specialise in this in the North Herts/Beds area? Thanks.

Unless you know someone who owns a farm or something where you can drive around a field getting to know the controls etc, then i suggest you call a few driving instructors and tell them that you are nervous......they will probably take you to an industrial estate somewhere on a sunday morning when there arent any other vehicles around, and let you practice there.
Dont be nervous....once youve got a couple of hours under your belt..your confidence will come in bounds...
Good luck
If you wanted to gain off the road why not just use an asda carpark or a local retail shopping one.

I cant think of any benefits of taking the car across a farmers field or going up the side of a hill
