Why are cars shaped the way they are when 20 people per day die of collisions with oncoming vehicles in head on smashes? Is there no alternative design?

Probably they are shaped the way they are is because years ago more than 20 people per day died in collisions.

The manufacturers will get there eventually.
Are you talking about The UK?

Thats 7,650 people killed in just head collisions, where do you get those figures from?

Don't be silly.

There were only 3,201 road deaths in 2005 from all causes including pedestrians, motorcyclists, etc.

3201 deaths. Thats all right then?

No what I'm getting at is because of the square frontage there is no allowance for errors by a driver. If the car was more chisel shaped at the front some but not all accidents would result in a better outcome.
maybe the standards of driving needs improving??

In Germany on the autobahn there is no speed limit

In America the speed limit on the freeways is 50mph

In the uk its 70 on the motorway

The country with the highest annual death toll on the roads is America

Could this have something to do with the standard of driving in this country !!!!!!!!!!!!
Question Author
If it was all down to the drivers they wouldn't have made seat belts compulsory.
In 99 percent of collisions most of the blame is on the dri ver, not the car, as CAZZZ says driver education/training is the only answer to less deaths.
if they didnt let so many morons pass the driving test we wouldnt have a problem.
