Hi, wondering if anyone could help...
My car is making a whirring/fan like noise from engine..starts soon after I begin to drive and continues until ignition is turned off..
It's quite loud, car is well overdue a service (Monday!) but I'm just wondering is it safe to drive the car in the meantime?
Ignition coil replaced 3 months ago but car was jumping then, not making this noise.
?fan belt or is it an actual fan because car is overheating?!
No warning lights have come on.
Thanks for your help
lol ...
Sounds like the radiator fan is running continuously. Open bonnet when running and see if IS the fan.
Check the coolant level when cool .. and get it checked on service or next week.
My Mk2 Golf started making a strange whirring noise recently. I only heard it for a few minutes after starting from cold and then it disappeared until next time. I thought it might be the alternator bearing on the way out but then I found the timing belt cover was loose and the belt was just rubbing on the inside. I changed the timing belt a few months ago so I obviously hadn't fully tightened the cover's bolts. I just tightened them up and no more whirring!
