My 95 year old father-in-law has an AV/RV Digital Series television.

On some TV programmes he can hear a running commentary when there is no dialogue.

I'm sure that using the remote control this function can be turned off, but we have not been successful in trying.

Can anybody please advise.

not a technical answer I'm afraid, but some TV progs have a type of descriptive narrative for the blind or visually impaired.

I've no idea if it can be turned off, sorry.
There should be an AD (audio description) button on the remote which should switch this off. If not try searching online for an the instruction manual for the make and model of TV and see if that has any further instructions

Many thanks to you both.
we have Virgin Media and they have an audio description setting in the on screen menu using the remote and finding our way to settings.. it might be under the heading "accessibility" or something similar - we turned it on by accident but soon switched it off again
