can anyone tell me where the team test drive the cars on the show, it looks like an old airfield

Since 2002 Top Gear has been filmed at Dunsfold Park in Surrey. The site was previously known as Dunsfold Aerodrome when it was used by BAe Systems for the manufacture and testing of jet aircraft such as the Harrier.

It has been reported that Top Gear will need to find an alternative site within the next few years as planning has been approved for housing development at Dunsford Park.
