Does anyone have a list of fruit and veg that should not be kept in the fridge, since the cold has a detrimental effect on the quality?

Thanks in advance

I know that bananas keep alright in the fridge. They might discolour after a few days, but they don't get that awful over-ripe taste.
I was told by a chef that you shouldn't keep bananas with other fruits as they make the other fruit go off quicker.

FWIW, i just keep grapes in the fridge plus all my veg, which is kept in the salad tray. Salad stuff is kept in the fridge too.

I would have thought keeping bananas in the fridge would make the skins go black although I guess it depends on the fridge temperature, which I believe should be about 4 or 5 degrees.

I keep grapes, melon, pineapple, apples and pears in the fridge. In fact the only fruit I don't store in there are oranges and bananas. Apart from potatoes & onions, I store as many of my other vegs in the fridge as possible which find prevents them from drying out in a warm kitchen. If I have surplus tomatoes I also keep them in there to prevent them ripening too quickly.

At times like Christmas when the fridge gets too full, I store my suplus veggies either in a cool garage or outside stored in plastic bags where they remain fresher for far longer than kept in the kitchen.

Tomatoes and fresh basil should NEVER be referigerated. Refridgerating tomatoes will alter their taste and refridgerating basil will kill it, as the fridge temperature is too cold.
I have always thought that bananas should not be kept in the fridge as they get 'cold' burn and the temperature changes the taste and texture of the fruit.I would also agree that tomatoes and basil should be kept at room temperature as the cold interferes with their taste. I also keep potatoes and onions wrapped in newspaper out of the fridge. Cabbage, cauliflower, sweetpotato, squash and pumpkin don't need keeping in the fridge if they are going to be eated quickly. I also don't bother to keep melon, apples, oranges or any other fruit in the fridge (unless it is a really hot summers day and I want it cold as a preparation choice!) as I think the cold reduces the natural sweetness and taste of these fruits.
