I thought it funny. It's selfish to plant a tree on the boundary, don't you think?
I think I might have done the same!
Question Author
The tree has been there for 25 years.
Question Author
Would you really, dave?
link doesn't work for me?
I know what you mean, naomi. There is possibly more to this story than meets the eye. We have a love of trees but I think this may be a case where it may have been better to remove the tree altogether, for it is a pitiful sight as it stands. Such a shame.
Yes I would - if I park my car on the drive & every time I come out it's covered in bird droppings then I would want to do something to stop it.

They were perfectly entitled to prune the overhanging branches if the tree's owner wouldn't do anything.
Some tree sap is disastrous for car paintwork, too. The roots can also cause damage not only to the drive but to house foundations, too.
link doesn't work for me either, says something about debugging, wordpress?
Yes - it should never have put there in the first place, what a stupid place to plant it!
oh dear.....
It seem terribly petty and such a same for the tree, but I can't imagine why it was planted there in the first place.
Question Author
dave, I know what they're 'entitled' to do, but this is sheer vandalism. Rather, as choux says, have the tree removed altogether - but I guess with people who would be willing to do something so crass there is no negotiation.
My neighbour did the same with a row of Leylandii ( not mine)with branches overhanging his fence.
TBF I see their point, I'd probably do the same if they get no joy negotiating.
thanks naomi, that link works
personally i would prefer some bird dropping on my drive to the sight of half a tree every time i arrive home

Naomi, do you really think that the owner of the tree would have agreed to it being removed?
I think they tried to get the tree removed but couldn't get agreement.
Question Author
I don't know, danny. I can understand people cutting down overhanging branches, but this is ridiculous. I wouldn't want that eyesore outside my house. Luckily for the owners they're left with the pretty side to look at.
