son and his girl friend just bought a house. lovely 2 bedroom Victorian semi has some lovely features. Anyhow, the previous people have left the bedroom carpets and to be honest not bad quality, but all around the skirting boards they are all black like some one has coloured them, bizarre, can any one give me any clues to what it is or what has caused this. thanks in advance
Sounds like the carpets were layed without someone cleaning the floorboards after removing the old carpet and the dirt worked it`s way up around the edges. That`s what happened to my carpets.
Mums..I bought a Victorian house and replaced about half the floorboards and all the skirting boards in the dining room so my pale carpet went onto clean and mostly new wood.
No matter how fussy I was with the vacuum the edges would gradually darken, much more so behind a large unit that was rarely moved. I put it down to dust coming up through the boards and under the skirting in an old and slightly wobbly house.
It's dust coming through the floor boards Mum, with my valeting carpet cleaning, I find this very often, with a good carpet cleaner hire from Asda / Tesco / Homebase you can get it sorted.
Thank you for your replies. I thought it might have had something to do with fire and soot coming through floor boards don't know where I got this from.
It's dust being dragged through by some internal draught or other - perhaps have a look round the whole outside and see what could be the source. Used to happen to my upstairs extension till I got new doors on the garage below it.
