Why is it that tea cups that are stained chocolate brown with tannin seems to be acceptable by some?

I have witnessed this many times, when I comment on it, they reply "its just tannin"
Does giving dirt a name justify it?

If i presented a plate with old dried gravy on it and said "its just gravy" that wouldnt be acceptable!

The thing with tea cups and tannin, it cleans off in 5 seconds, DO IT!!!

Grubby urchins!!!

Rant over!! :-)

I'm hearing you bro!

You should see the state of some of the cups in the office at work?
There is a huge difference between dirt and tannin.
ohgodohgodohgodohgod I cannot stand that........

How then do they leave their bathrooms...... ohgodohgodohgod
I always lick my plate clean of any remaining gravy. I'm not invited out to eat much.
lol, but i know what you mean.

im not going to tell you what i just did with the buttery marmitey residue left on my plate :-)

>>There is a huge difference between dirt and tannin.<< see what I mean!

Please explain!

I consider that any residue left in a cup or on any crockery from previous use to be dirt, is that wrong?
Mccfluff - it was marmite wasn't it? You're sure?

Im assuming that it wasn't left on the plate from a previous meal!
no - leakage from my crumpets and it was def marmite :-)
Its a stain, but then I guess if cups are washed quick enough they wouldnt stain. Although does dep0end of material cup is made out of. A bit like getting tea stained teeth because of bad enamel
Did you leave manky smears of butter in the Marmite jar too?
Tannin is a stain just like you might observe stained wood on a table. By your argument you would presumably strip all household surfaces of stain and paint.
Ratter, I agree wholeheartedly !! Tannin/ coffee lines left in cups is just horrible. Like you said it takes no effort to clean it .Even really bad stains come clean with a bit of elbow grease, soda, soap, vinegar, steradent, all sorts !! If you ever come here for tea you will be assured of a spotless cup /mug !!!!
Hardly comparable.
Nah, I've got mugs which I could scrub with a scourer for an hour and the stains wouldn't come off without being left in bleach overnight. If people don't want to drink out of them that's their problem.
Not quite. You don't eat off the table do you.
no, i stuck my finger in the jar and removed the butter...
Lidl is selling Marmite and next to it a similar jar with Ma'mite on it,avoided the latter but is this a blatant copy or the same company ?
The fellas that fitted my windows told me off when they saw me bleaching my cups to get rid of tannin stains, they reckoned it added to the flavour.
Yuk, yuk, yuk!! ( and that's not my goofy laugh)
I can't understand how anyone can drink from a cup like that.

Fluff, what did you do?
