Watch the video, one guy actually paid to go back to France to avoid being sent there. The smugglers are moaning that their customer base is drying up..

You mean Most Flawed Answer surely gulliver. The policy hasn't been a deterrent and wont be until all the legal challenges and hand wringing stops and those who would consider making the journey by dinghy know that the planes are lined up ready to take them the moment they land here.

It takes time for the word to get out. But business may pick up again if judges decide it's illegal so no one will go.

Drastic action is needed to free our nation from poor legislation & agreements.

"The smugglers are moaning that their customer base is drying up.."

I don't think they're on the breadline just yet, Tora:

Anyway, all the doctors and engineers arriving here in small boats need not fret too much. All they have to do is to pop across on the ferry from Liverpool to Belfast (at about thirty quid, much cheaper - and considerably more comfortable - than the rubbr boat crossing) and they're home and dry:

(Rwanda Threat Not Working ? Right!) ...You are quite Right TTT .  It is Not working. Between  May 4th and  today May 13th Over 1,000 people have crossed the channel. Making a grand total of 6.265  That have crossed the channel this year .Up by nearly a quarter compared with the same period last year. You are spot on the Rwanda threat is not working.Maybe you should have a day off to get over it .🤣

The Rwanda policy is based on it being a deterrent. People will not illegally come here if they know they will be deported.

And how is that working out? The plan was announced in 2022. Since then:

45,774 arrived in 2022

29,437 arrived in 2023

9,445 have arrived so far this year.

It is not proving to be a deterrent.
To add insult to injury, apparently we are offering £500 refunds to illegals who don't like it here.

So in the video that guy who paid £500 of his own to get back to France because he doesnt want to go to Rwanda and the smugglers moaning are just actors? Right oh!

Question Author

20:01, the law only passed 2 weeks ago.

// the law only passed 2 weeks ago //

There is no exemption against going to Rwanda for people who arrived before 2 weeks ago. All illegal immigrants can be deported. The fact that tens of thousands have not been deterred since the policy was annouced, is proof that it is not a deterrent.

Question Author

it wasn't a deterrent while your trobiscite mates were blocking everything now it is.

1) People are paying people smugglers to go back to france

2) People smugglers are moaning that business is drying up

3) Those here are going to Ireland to avoid being sent to Rwanda.

The new law has made it a deterrent, end of.

It's not proving to be a deterrent because it isn't happening.  If we actually did it then it would be a deterrent.

Question Author

20:29 it is a deterrent or why are the 3 things in my post happening? The deterrence will increase when they start flying in a few weeks.

TTT, I was quoting Gromit.

If we actually did it - straight off the boats and on to planes - no messing - the boats would stop.  A good proportion of these people have come from Africa.  That's the last place they want to end up in.

123,800 illegal immigrants have arrived under this Government.

The one plane chatered to fly to Rwanda had 17 deportees on it.

At that rate it would take 7,282 fights to rid us of this problem. How much would that cost?

The Governments failure to make progress on this will be the primary reason they will lose votes to Reform, pissibly losing the next election.

Question Author

Poor old gromit, the law changed me old china, they'll be taking off in a few weeks. No need to quote the past at us.

Gromit, I agree - this will lose them votes but they've been stymied at every turn.  Oh that they had the gumption to ditch the ECHR!

// they'll be taking off in a few weeks. No need to quote the past at us. //

I will file that with one of your previous assertions 😀

Question Author

Sometimes it's hilarous with hindsight, reading old threads on AB 😀
