With this ridicules and offensive explanation of why some people are gay, coming from 'Ground Zero' mosque's new imam Abdallah Adhami.

Will it now further Anti-Muslim feelings even more, especially taking into account that a large proportion of people were against the Mosque being built on the site of the 9/11 atrocity in the first place?

He just sounds like an ignorant, narrow-minded person like anyone else who spouts off stuff like this. He should have been ignored as his views would not be welcomed by anyone that is sane. Bringing attention to it will just fuel more fire.

I equally can't believe the authorities allowed a Mosque to be built there in the first place.
No mosque at Ground Zero - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park51

I don't think his comments will arouse any more condemnation that American Muslims already attract.
He should get on very well with a lot of conservative Christians in the US then

They seem to have more in common than they think
So, he rules out the 'gay gene', then?
In answer to your last question, I was always lead to believe there were mosques in that area prior to September 11 anyway, even prayer rooms in the WTC, so I fail to see why there's any objections now.
"....so I fail to see why there's any objections now. "

Now let me see does 911 ring any bells? If a dog craps in your garden you can get very anti dog!
Even if a dog did crap in my garden I wouldn't deny it the right to worship as it pleases.
Errr no i wouldn't.

What a stupid anology!
Christians bombed London and Dresden in WW2. Don't remember any fuss when churches were built or rebuilt on bomb sites.
@McMouse, the analogy doesn't work. Neither was done in the name of religion.

@AOG, Back when the issue was argued about on AB, I seem to remember it being demonstrated quite convincingly that the new mosque wasn't being built on 'Ground Zero', just near it. Which kind of takes a lot of the edge out of this story.

I agree with the others - he's just another extremist idiot doing damage to society and ruining what I understand was intended as an all-community project. What a shame.
Is his opinion that extreme?

Perhaps I'm wrong but I'd venture to guess that it's pretty mainstream amoungst most muslims.

They have many fine features but they're not best known for a lot of tolerance of homosexuality - even in the more liberal wings of Islam.
What a complete pranny !
jno: That's true, actually. Didn't think of that.
"Will it now further Anti-Muslim feelings even more?"

In America?

Right now?

There are probably a number of very right wing Christian fundamentalists who are quietly nodding their heads in agreement.

Sad but true.

There's a supermarket chain in the US who have covered over a magazine with David Furnish and Elton John with their son, "to protect child shoppers".

Seriously.
Krom, you're talking to jno but I can't see a post from her here. Am I missing something, going mad - or do you know something I don't?

AOG, As far as I can recall the mosque wasn't being built 'on the site of the 9/11 atrocity', and I don't think it does you any good to misrepresent the facts so blatantly. One could almost be forgiven for thinking you have a specific agenda.

Well his bigotry is so widespread it's hard to imagine he can dislike so many different things and still have time for an everyday life.
