Passport query relating to Top Gear "Nativity" episode

Firstly, what a BRILLIANT episode this was!

However, one thing that was mentioned more than once (but not explained) was that each of the guys had two passports.

Can anyone tell me why that was, please?

tonights Hollyoaks? insensitive?

to get into Jewish Land you cant have a Muzzi stamp n- and vica versa - except for the Jerusalem Cairo link. So what one does is fly London - Cairo on a Muzzi only passport and have the Heeby passport DHLed out to your Cairo hotel. And then into Jerusalem. If you are travelliung on into the M-East, fly back to Cairo and pick your Muzzi-only passport up from the hotel safe back in Cairo.

Yawn yes, joke perhaps yes, necessity to do this and have two passports yes....and also it applies to some other pokey countries in the world.

Am I right in assuming that by Muzzi and Heeby, you mean Muslim and Hebrew?

As an aside, I'm surprised that the programme producers/researchers/fixers (allegedly) didn't know that BBC Staff are not allowed into one of the countries that the guys had planned to go through (can't remember which one, though!) until they were turned back at a border crossing!

I've not seen the programme but, under certain circumstances, the UK Identity and Passport Service will issue a second passport (which has only very limited validity) to a citizen who will be travelling on a route that includes Israel and certain other countries. (Libya, Syria, Iran, and Saudi Arabia are among the countries which will not admit anyone with an Israeli entry stamp in their passport, or other evidence of visiting Israel such as stamps from the Egyptian or Jordanian border crossings).

there was a nice one several years ago when a Saudi Airlines plane had to land in an emergency in Israel. The immigration took great pleasure in stamping the Saudi passports with the Heeby stamps.

I would like you to define how they are offensive - Jewish lands - how is that offensive.

A Heeby is not offensive - please tell me the site or dictionary that defines this as being offensive. My wife was Jewish and she used it on herself.

I did not use Muzzy as that would be offensive; Muzzy is an old expression for someone who is not mentally stable. Perhaps that is the offensive term to you given your handle. A Muzzy is someone who is "mentally confused or muddled." I quote from various sources on that including freedictionary. Muzzi just implies someone who is of Muslim origin.

I was married to a Jewish woman and they use ther term amongst themselves, so in terms of being offensive, this is highly mitigated. The Jewish humour can be like Irish and others in being extremely self-depreciating.

As to land versus lands you are technically correct, so I will concede that one. However, what I was seeking were some descriptions without using the offical terminilogy to add some flavour to what was being conveyed.

I will, in the future, stick to the moribund basics so as to be totally self-explanatory to the average IQ some are demonstrating tonight, especially on this thread, no names mentioned.
