Evening poodi. Yes I enjoyed it too but as with most good things - don't fix it if aint broke. I would not give the new cast a fair go as I enjoyed the previous actors so much - many of whom are now departed. Are you feeling a bit lighter about things after last week's posting?
Yes I liked it too. I used to like Simon Williams!!

Hi ttfn, yep the sale goes ahead tomorrow, friday the 13th omg,hi yelenots, quite a stellar cast for the remake, and the original rose mark, jean marsh will return,as a housekeeper not a maid..
It could be one of those times when you first think a re-make isn`t a good idea but then I thought the newer version of the forsyth saga (with Damien Lewis) was excellent and can bring the show to a new audience.
Keep your chin up then poodi. I probably would have a peep at the new version but I don't suppose it would compare well for me. Thank goodness for series on dvds ☺ Quite often I cannot see the sense in producing new versions of some film classics, but then I am not one for change, generally speaking.

Well they have brought in Cranford writer Heidi Thomas for the new series...

The cook was originally Angela Baddeley, now Ann Reid takes on the role great actress...
Upstairs Downstairs is currently being shown on on of the digital channels.
Will it be with the same family again...the Bellameys? I can't wait. I've watched the old one at least 15 times and am watching it again on the weekends.
Oh good oh ..it must be on soon then . I saw something about this last year .I loved Upstairs Downstairs and have got the boxed set .It's lovely to watch ,bit hammy now though :)
If it's scripted by Heidi Thomas who did the wonderful Cranford then it's bound to be good and Anne Reid plays dotty old dames brilliantly .Looks like a great cast .

Couldn't agree more with your assesment of Anne Reid. Indeed a brilliant actress, probably unfairly hadicapped by her role in Coronation Street all those years ago.

Keeley Hawes will play lady agnes holland, her predecessor being lady majorie bellamy...
I'll look forward to that..I watched some old ones recently on one of the freeview channels & you're right shaney, very hammy. I kept expecting Julie Walters & Victoria Wood to amble across the back of the set :o)
I used to enjoy the original, I shall probably watch the new one just to see what it is like.
//'shot through with sensuality’//

I hope they don't spoil it by making it all sexy and steamy and sensationalist as they often do with remakes and sequels.

Hi naomi, wouldnt think so,want to keep it as a period drama..
Hope so - wouldn't want to give poor old Rose a shock.
Series creators Jean Marsh and Dame Eileen Atkins will have roles in the new version, which is set in 1936.

It will be relaunched with two 90-minute films.

Jean Marsh will return in her previous role as Rose, the parlourmaid. She will now be housekeeper to the new residents of 165 Eaton Place, the wealthy Holland family.

The BBC say it will be set in the years running up to the Second World War, with Rose discovering times have changed, as servants are no longer cheap and obedient.
Funny you should post about U.D today. I watched the second half of an episode this afternoon on ITV3. I used to love it - and for that matter, still do. Might give a remake a chance, but doubt whether it would be as good as the original. Watched a remake of "The Forsyte Saga" during last week, and it wasn't a patch on the original. So I switched off.
