Can anyone tell me, is it common for British Embassies across the world to transport British workers over for all jobs?  Permanent staff are British obviously, but would they really import some Geordies to do some plastering?

yes it happens all the time. If you only knew the lifestyle that embassy staff enjoy. For eg. all the houses built on embassy grounds have UK specs for all items including doors/double glazing, windows, kitchens, white goods A/C etc etc. All these items are bought over from the UK and installed. So a patio door in a embassy residence lets say in the heart of Africa...will be a UK double glazed door. All electrics are the square shaped 3 pin plugs. Obviously it will need British builders to install. Want to see the houses that the Department for International development (ostensibly giving out AID to poor countries) staff live in. Mansions man mansions.

But why they do it is 'bugging' me.
