Hardly in the public interest to prosecute, though it will add further fuel to the euthenasia debate that ought to sorted in this country within 3 years, IMHO.

I appreciate that A. Guest, it's just at the time the link you've provided was posted, no arrest had been made.

Things have moved on a'pace.
the bottom line is he committed a murder he should be brought to justice...its against the law to kill another human being whatever the circumstances...
Don't know enough of the details but this is a case where someone actively killed another person.

They didn't help them go to a swiss clinic or obtain drugs for them.

It is a narrow line but I can see how it could be in the public interest to prosecute - there doesn't seem any actual evidence of consent and if this were allowed to slide it would be easy to justify killing someone with a terminal illness and just say the same thing
police had to arrest him after he confessed to murder on tv - they had no choice really did they.
They will now have to build a case and the CPS will decide on whether they could get a conviction and whether it was in the public interest - i feel it should go to trial because, as mentioned, it would help speed up the legislative process re so called mercy killings as the whole issue needs looking at and a definitive answer needs to be priduced defining what is and what is not assisting a suicide
Hi Philtaz,
I heard about this. I always admired Ray Gosling for his straightforward approach in documentarys ect.. I can't fathom the reason he feels the need to disclose this after many years have past? I believe it was a mercy killing, a man he loved deeply. May be he feels the need to share his grief/ guilt? Is Ray himself ill and taking this opportunity to confess/ I dont know, but I like the man.

My own opinion of this is that Gosling has done it in order to clear his conscience and as I stated in the OP, to add further fuel to current debate.

Such cases are becoming regular events and UK familie's attending Dignitas with their relatives is now a weekly/fortnightly event, to the point where it is ceasing to become 'news'.

Gosling is adding his own story in order to gain momentum for the euthenasia cause in this country. I fail to see how a 70 year old man who smothered his at-the-point-of-death terminally ill lover is 1. A threat to the general public or 2. Worth imprisoning. I doubt there is a jury in the land that would convict him of murder.
There's been too many similar cases of late where the suspects have been aquitted or received suspended sentences.
deggers i was i that situation 2 years ago when i watched my dear dad die of lung cancer,so it has come my way,yes it was a mercy when he did die so he was out of his pain, but none of my brothers or sister would have dreamed of ''putting him out of his misery''....that is murder plain and simple,so dont shout your mouth off about other peoples predicaments until you know their background...talk about self righteous..you should take a good long look i the mirror....
I bet the CPS will decide it is not in the public interest to take him to court.
I think he's got a book coming out...........
I believe the Swiss place charges 5k. Seems a bit steep.

i have been , dad mam and sister
also i have worked in a large hospital for 36 years and seen hundreds of what i would call hideous suffering ,
and yes have looked in the mirror !
well 1 question deggers could YOU have murdered any of your loved ones???
answer .. i wanted to end their misery but had a lot to live for then (i was a lot younger) but now i have a partner for many years and i will yes i would if she was in intolerable pain and incurable and i would suffer the circumstances as she is my life,
