According to this site the original scripwriter was in fact Robin Lyons. (I'll keep searching tho) :o)

Oh of course!. Robin Lyons was the SCRIPTwriter!
The TV series was a conversion of the illustrated books.

Superted was originaly in Welsh( as was Fireman Sam) and produced by s4c in Cardiff, I believe Mike Young was responsible for creating him.

It was Mike Young - I used to know him. He lived/lives in Barry, Wales where I live. He used to tell the story to his kids. I know that (then) the only shareholders in his company were members of his family. He was/ a lovely bloke and (just out of interest) his cousin is actor Victor Spinetti.
