I blame the parents.

I was in town this morning (dental surgery) and had the misfortune to see a group of children in a newsagents shop behave like what can only be described as "chavs". They were only 7 or 8 years old and yet swore like navvys and one asked me for a light.!

Drippin in gold(plate) jewellery, name tags on their neckchains and 3 initial rings (yes at 7/8 years old) jerkins 5 sizes too big, unlaced white trainers, answer to the name of Dale,, Dean, Sean, Chardonnay, or Kylie, parents were dragged up, etc
there is no hope for these so called ''chavs'' is there??? but lets get things into perspective shall we?...i was brought up on a council estate,my dad worked damn hard to provide for his family and mum stayed at home to look after us,none of us,or indeed my friends who were of the same upbringing got into trouble with the police,we were just kids playing football, cricket climbing trees etc etc,yes very famous 5 some of you might say but we were on the breadline and SOME of us,not all went on to secure good jobs and livelihoods, its a social breakdown that is to blame...the parents of these kids have no standards or morals...things will only get worse im afraid....can you imagine what the kids of the hoodlums of today are going to be like.....god help us.....rant over......lol
Nox,
I was brought up on a rough council estate as part of a large family and we would have had our mouths washed out with soap if we had behaved like that- the difference is that my parents got off their backsides and worked and showed us a good example and the rest of society wasn't afraid to speak up and point kids in the right direction. You try telling a kid off nowadays and you get a mouthful of abuse about how you are infringing their civil liberties. I am glad to say that if my kids did something that warranted a telling off from a neighbour, they would be home with their tail between their legs as fast as they could run.
Being poor is no excuse for bad manners and behaviour.

Hi stoke - sorry your post wasn't there when I was typing mine - great minds eh!
I was picking my kids up from school the other day and a child - I would say aged about 9, opened up a card and just dropped the envelope to the ground - he was standing with his grandmother at the time and she looked at it and didn't say a word. The bin was about 5 steps away from where we were standing. I asked him to pick it up and put it in the bin, which he did and the grandmother just glared at me. Maybe she would rather just get a fine for littering which she wouldn't have to pay as they are all on benefits.
