Just wondered whether all the Dingles were named after characters in The Bible. If so, can't remember ever hearing of a Marlon, or come to think of it Belle. How did they slip through the net?

Marlon might be French for little hawk (same as Merlin); Belle's French for beauty.
Incidentally, Elvis is probably a Welsh name. In the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire is a St Elvis chapel

Just posted an answer and it has disappeared. So this is a shortened version. Belle was born at Christmas. There have been several non biblical characters. Butch, Mandy, Charity, Chastity and some others.
I don't watch it but my OH does and I take in more than I would like to admit to. LOL
Belle was born in a pigsty on Christmas Day and I think her full name is Tinkerbell.

Chastity and Charity have Christian kind of linkages though surely? Shouldn't we all be chaste and charitable? Don't think we all have to be butch though :-/
And what about Debbie?
Butch was his nickname. I can`t recall his real name. And who can forget Delilah lol ??
Francis Albert was Butch`s real name.
Half the family have biblical names and half have showbizzy names - hence Marlon (brando) Francis albert (Sinatra) Tinkerbelle (from peter Pan). Debbie was (I think) named by adoptive parents.

That would explain a lot. I always thought Belle was called that because she was born at Christmas (vague connection)
didn't realise till she told the new bird her name was actually Tinkerbelle!
Anyone from Barnsley is usually called a Dingle:-)
