With the closing date rapidly approaching, weeks of questions on this site has yet to furnish you with all the answers.

Correct ! ...kempie. However to put it in its correct context out of 300 questions I personally have asked for help on about 10 maybe 12 which by and large are the really hard ones, apart from the odd one like this one where new info. prompted a difference of opinion, hence the need for urgency. What you don't see are the hours spent at libraries, book shops, looking through a year of Northern Echoes, looking through our own books and magazines and of course Googling, but this quiz can't be won on the inter-net alone... try it some time! In 25 years only one person has ever got all the questions right ..that is why you get a month to do it, and that is why people are scrambling about trying to get answers. Can you imagine how hard this quiz was before the inter-net came along !

Why not present the 290 answers for which you toiled so diligently without resorting to the "easy option"? Any sense of self-achievement is surely diminished by asking others to bolster your entry.

You should not presume that I am unaccustomed to the hard graft of pe-internet research... a sizeable chunk of my career was predicated on such endeavours.

I wasn't having a pop kempie! I was just explaining how this quiz gets to people. In an ideal world if everybody played by the same rules then your option would be the noble way, however after a lot of hard work everbody is looking for an edge, and that's human nature for you in all its glory. Anyway what would then happen to this site ?

I suspect it would survive if no more quiz questions were posted outside of the Quizzes & Puzzles section.

But would not all other quizzes be barred for the same reason, or are they not subject to the same noble rules. Are they not also trying to win something in exactly the same way? So in effect the site would become obsolete

What percentage of questions posted on this site do you perceive as quiz prompted?

My own impression is that "non-quiz" questions make up the majority of threads, and to be honest my infrequent but indulgent sniping in regard of quiz (any, non-specific quiz) questions is purely reserved for those posted outside of the Q&P section.

Its funny you should mention that because in my early days of using this site I was advised by "the management" to post my questions in the appropriate subject section and that was after initially putting them in the quiz section. It is just possible that some people with specific knowledge may not look into the quiz section, so it makes sense to apply the horses for courses logic .
With regard to your percentage question I think there are more people doing prize quizzes than let on. For instance many of the crosswords that I see in the papers and mags. are for prizes, and for those people this is the ideal site because it isn't a designated section for people to talk about crosswords, where they can irritated by the intrusion of people with clues
