I could think of so many well known people who would have been great but will be interesting for someone new as can't say I've ever heard of him.

He's very young which will be interesting as it doesn't really sell the age thing.
They can keep him! I want Sean:-(
Just heard that on Radio 2 WM.

Don't know much about this newbie, so can't really comment on him.

I thought David Morrisey would have made an interesting Dr Who & 'cos I really like him.
Saw him on Dr. Who Confidential this evening. Don't know him but he has charisma and looks right for the part.

David Tennant is a tough act to follow but I think the new guy will do well.
They've chosen a ponsy middle class typical safe English actor to please the kids and young teens, it is a kids show after all i suppose
I can't wait to see how he'll turn out I'm sure he'll be good otherwise they wouldn't have given him the part.
A young Doctor will be more fun I think.
I'm a little unsure about this new 26 year old.
Hmmm,I definitely much prefer David T.
He played the part of the Doctor so very very well.
It really is a shame that he has decided to leave the role in 2010.He will be sorely missed.
My mother adores him.I like him because he is the one and only The Doctor.
Let's hope that Matt Smith can be just as expressive and play the part just as well as David T.
We will just have to wait and see.Who knows!!
Why does he have to keep getting younger (apart to please the girls of course)? At this rate, the part will end up being played by a foetus!

Next time, someone in their 40s please!!
I agree with the comment by smudge earlier on.

David Morrisey would have been perfect for the role.I liked the Christmas Doctor Who special with him and David T.
lmao at your comment delboy.

You could well be right. The next actor could be even played by a little tot who could have a problem lifting his sonic screwdiver!!!
I wonder why they have enlisted someone so very young to play the part.I hope that Steve Moffat knows what he's doing.
Otherwise he might regret what he has done, especially if he makes the show too lighthearted.Doctor Who has got to have some serious drama in it.We don't want the show to be a kiddies show Steve.
thinks....I hope Steve Moffat is reading this
Can't really give an opinion until I've seen him in the part.
dot's right... bring back William Hartnell.

I wonder who his companion is going to be, that could make a difference.

I do wonder if he is old enough to have the depth of DT & CE who can not only do the quirky humour but can also convey the quite dark side of the Doctor and the essence of who he actually is (this is sounding waaaay to deep for this time of the morning lol).

I just hope it doesn't loose the whole depth of the character, being so old and knowledgeable, I just wonder if someone so young can carry it off without just seeming pretentious.

If I'm honest I'm quite glad David Morrissey didn't get it after the Christmas special as he just annoyed me in it.
well, he's not exactly a baby, he's 26 (in this incarnation)
I'm sure I read somewhere that the next lot'll be the final series?
I think he's got another couple of incarnations to go but of course there could be another 10-year gap. I expect it'll just depend on whether people like the new guy.
Maybe they're saying that in case it all goes a bit wrong so they don't lose face :)
Oh Noooo!!.....hope not!
I read that the BBC had so many doubts about bringing the series back, that they considered Paul Daniels as the Doctor...never!!!
It's going to be interesting to watch, not only for the new Doctor, but Russell T Davies is leaving/has left as well. A shame that David Tennant has decided to go - let's ope that the specials he's doing will be good ones. He's definitely been my favourite Doctor.
