I'm showing my age now, but I used to love watching Billy Bunter of Greyfriars on TV. We have digital radio & I was listening to it the other day on the One Word story channel. What happened to the actor Gerald Campion who played him? What other programmes did he appear in & Is he still alive? I know I could find the answer on Google, but just wanted to see if anone else remembers.

Couldn't stand the suspense, so just Googled! Gerald Campion died on Tuesday 9 July 2002 from heart problems. But are there any oldies out there who used to watch it too?
I remember BB. He looked very like Lord Inglewood does now. No idea what else he appeared in though.
I used to love watching Billy Bunter and reading the books. I believe Gerald Campion was much older than the other "members of the Remove". I used to love the signature tune, which was a lovely string arrangement of the tune Mike Oldfield made popular as "Portsmouth"
Of course I remember, Smudge. Regular after school TV programme and very much loved. Do you remember the teacher/headmaster - Mr Pettigrew I believe he was called. Tall, thin, miserable man. Mind you, I can always remember thinking that Billy was a bit old to be at school. Didn't he have a sister Bessie Bunter>
I remember him well and although he didn't do much acting after Billy Bunter he did own a very good restaurant between Tunbridge Wells and Crowborough in East Sussex. When I went, about 1985 he looked just the same as he did in Billy Bunter.
Mr. Pettigrew was played by Arthur Howard, who I believe was a brother of Leslie and Trevor.
I seem to remember my mother telling me that he (Mr Pettigrew) was disgraced by 'unsuitable behaviour with young men' and disappeared from our screens. At the time I didn't know what she was talking about. I am now going to find out if there's anything on Google. Thanks, Majorbonkers
Got it all wrong, didn't I. Looked him up on Google and found Arthur Howard played Mr Pettigrew in Whacko with Jimmy Edwards. Don't know who the chap was in Billy Bunter. Sorry I have cast doubt on Arthur Howard's good name!
Smudge, has you ever been into this website:http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/index.htm Absolutely brilliant for people of our great age, and includes Billy Bunter

Well Anniekon, just perused the whirligig website re: the 50's. So nostalgic & it's amazing the amount of information Google has to offer. When our first granddaughter was born 15 years ago, I bought the B&W video of Watch with Mother. She used to love it & now the other 3 granchildren love it too. Bring back the good old days I say!

My question on Film & TV is about Quatermass & the Pit. Scary!
Smudge, I have found your question on Quatermass and the Pit! Did you watch and listen to any of the short clips they have on Whirligig - I spent days on that site a couple of years ago!
Question Author
Anniekon - I haven't done that yet, but I certainly will now. It's amazing what you can remember from your childhood. Our Grandchildren are always asking us things about the 'olden' days - Ah!
Gosh yes, I remember old Bunter, the Fat Owl of Greyfriars, and among my book collection I have a first edition (Billy Bunter at Butlin's). Yarooh!
