Or is the hoo ha just up in Scotland?

I've got 77 miles until I run out of petrol and every station I passed to day had a sign telling us there was no unleaded left!!

don't know about petrol but they're restricting sales of home heating oil here in n.ireland..will only deliver 500litres and only if you're a regular customer.
Question Author
How long would 500 litres last you?

I imagine it's panic buying. I think there is meant to be a strike at a Scottish oil refinery tomorrow, so I should think that everyone has gone mad and filled up their cars unnecessarily because they think we will be bone dry by tomorrow. At this rate we will. I genuinely need petrol and two stations I passed are out.
over here in this freezing pile...about two months maximum!

A guy at my work said his pal works at the refinery and that the machinery HASN'T been shut down yet. Apparently it take 1 week to shut down and 1 week to get it back up and running, so I just don't know what to think now.

I'll manage to get to work tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday (providing I don't drive anywhere over the weekend) but after that, I'm snookered too.

2 months should be plenty time for it to get back to normal, Gonzo. Is it still really cold with you at this time of year? I rearely have my heating on now.
Invisible, my friend calls a cast a 'pot' too, and I hadn't heard it before really. Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?

I am not sure, really Dakota. There doesn't seem to be a crisis here, as such, but I have half a tank left, which will get me where I need to go for a long time yet. If needs be, I will just go back to not using a car, i.e. how life was about a month ago!

i seriously think we've got serious fuel shortages ahead, and it's nothing to do with strikes..crude oil is $114 a barrel at the mo and set to rise to$150 a barrel by mid summer...they're running out of supply..hence the price hikes.
ps. it's always bloody freezing over here...it takes us people two weeks on holiday in the sun just to go white...normally we're see through!
Grangemouth handles about a tenth of UK refining so there will be a shortage of supplies - not enough to merit panic buying really, but of course once everyone lese is doing it you have to join in (I did it on Monday and have been going by train ever since, just in case). It's probably going to be closed a month or so

oh well that's just stunning. I am on the fumes and a wing and a prayer as it is.

What's green shield stamps? (why are you green??)
Question Author
LOL @ barmaid!! I think it's kind of fun to be running on fumes, but only if I know there's going to be petrol when I eventually get to the station LOL!!

Question Author
Yes, it's called a stookie up here LOL
Exactly Dakota - kind of brings an edge to the day not knowing whether you will make it to the petrol station that gives you nectar points - but with the added carrot of not knowing whether they will actually have any petrol could be too much for my delicate disposition!!!

LMAO! It's a bit too delicate for my disposition too!
There's no buses run into the Industrial Estate where I'm based. I could walk, I suppose it would take an hour or so, but I'm not relishing in that thought.
