Buffy's Sister

Is it my imagination or was Buffy Summers of Buffy the Vampire fame an only child? Suddenly she has a little sister and I would love to know where she has been hiding for the last 3 or 4 seasons.

At the end of the first episode of season 7 ("Buffy vs. Dracula")Dawn, Buffy's sister was introduced as though she had always been there. It is only as the season goes on Dawn is revealed to have been sent to Buffy to protect and that a spell has been cast my monks so that the scooby gang believe that DAwn has always been there...It is much easy to follow as you watch the seasons...hope that helps
