I'm trying to put a title to the theme music for the title topic. It was a series of plays. Different each week. It was a simple flute ( I think) tune. Help.

I've tried for so long to find this out but no luck so far. The music was so lovely - I can still hum it if that's any help! I do hope that someone can answer this ...will keep on looking.
I've answered this in a later query, and told where you can get a copy. Your search is over!

I tried the beeb for archive material to help the search but a simple tv guide for the week from around that time is not available, it seems. Not sure if it was on the BBC or, for example, Granada TV. If anyone could answer this one it may help my search for the theme tune.

Here's the answer I posted after a similar query:

There were two theme tunes to this series, both I believe written by Tony Hatch. The first was a string arrangement called Memories of Summer, and which was recorded by the Tony Hatch Orchestra. The other was a Jacques Loussier-style jazz theme called Our Love Story, which was recorded by Sounds Orchestral. Good news: they're both available on the same excellent compilation double CD by Sequel records, "The Avengers and other Top Sixties TV Themes" (Sequel Records - NEM CD 976). Amazon.co.uk they're 8.99 new, from 6.35 used. I can thoroughly recommend this album, and there's a full list of tracks on the Amazon site.

I'm afraid johngammon is wrong about just 2 themes.
Val Parnell composed the very first theme to this series. I was desperate to find out too and contacted the BFI. I don't think you can get it anymore but you could always e-mail Jack-who's getting on a bit now-I did try that too but have had no response-oh well......

I may well be wrong because this series was on TV when I was very young, but I have a memory of a slowly rotating statue ( maybe Rodin's 'Kiss') accompanied by music which I later recognised as being from Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade which is, as someone else recalled, a solo flute.
But my memory may well be wrong!!

A bit late, ^^^ but Hey ho!
