no but ive noticed that when an actor in whatever gives out a number it usualy starts "555 blah blah blah

funnily enough mine really does lol
I rang one and it was an advert for the programme being shown.
I once rang Stepney Green (London) 1098 which was Steptoe and sons number, someone answered but I had not put my 4 old pence in the phonebox.
It was back in the Sixies when I was young and foolish.
Now I am old and foolish !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think 555 is the new york area code.

I was wrong. see the bottom 3 lines.
I can remember watching midnight run with Robert Deniro and he had a phone number for Charles Grodin who he had to bring back, im sure the number was 5553212 and he said ....."looks like im going to New york".

There are 680 usable area codes in the United States, of which 215 are currently in use. Each area code has 7,920,000 telephone numbers (out of a possible 10,000,000) available within it. Some numbers, such as those that would start with 0,1 or 911, are unavailable for use. Others, like 555, which is used as a prefix for fake phone numbers in movies and on TV, are reserved for special use.

Dave.

oooh i gotta special number then hahaha
555 is a totally non existent (or was anyway) code in the US and you only ever see it in yank progs. In the UK they used to use the old 246 info line codes a lot, but as said above, chances are if they use a number now it will be assigned to something connected with the programme.
I remember yonks ago on Corrie, Rita gave outthe number of a woman her hubby was seeing and BT nearly had a melt down with folk tryna ring the number.
I love the 555 ones they say in films , cheesier that a bag of wotsits:)
I used to work at bbc and was told that people would ring and try and get appointments with doctor leg in eastenders!
...phoned 01617151515...for a taxi once.... street cars in Coronation street...it's just an engaged tone though... would have been funnier to stick a recorded message of Eileen on there saying "there are no cabs available because all the drivers are either on holiday, on tour or in the pub"....
Thre was that song Jenny <-I>back in the 80's that had the # 8675309 in the song. It was a real number in the US when dialed with certain area codes. The people had to changr their numbers. I don't know what happens if you dial it now.... Hold on.....I just dialed it in my area code and it said,"Sorry all circuits are busy."
I once rang a number that was used as the telephone number of the airline on 'Lost' and it played the radio message that is used in the programe. sweet.
