I'm trying to find out the name of s fairly obscure post-apocalyptic sci-fi film that I saw on late night tv years ago. I can only remember so much about the plot, but here goes. The film was late 60's or 70's, def in colour. The main character was a scientist/engineer working on the building of the Atlantic train tunnel, but just before it is finished he ends up in suspended animation due to some sort of explosion/rock fall. He then wakes up in the distant future to find the world a much simpler place due to an ancient nuclear war. What was his lab, is now home to a primitive tribe. Romance ensues, as well as some sort of war in which primitive tribe fight local big tribe for control of nuke (in which they use underground trains to get around). Big tribe get nuked. Any ideas as to what the film was or was it just some brilliant dream.

Some of the plot you describe sounds like 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes', especially the fight for the nuclear missile (which goes off at the end).
Sounds a lot like Genesis II.

Gene Roddenberry used a lot of the same material for this and another pilot called Planet Earth made the following year. The same material was part of the source material for the TV series Andromeda starring Kevin Sorbo. The main character in each of these was Dylan Hunt.
