I took my mother-in-law to see it this afternoon, and was quite impressed with Mirren's performance. In one scene the Duke was getting into bed with his wife and said to her 'shove up cabbage' . Do you think this is actually his pet name for her or made up for the film?

We'll never know ...
I think it's made up. In fact, it's unlikely that they would be routinely sleeping in the same bed anyway.
I saw that yesterday and I found it very hard to see imagine this was real life. When the queen went out on her own and broke down in her landrover crossing the river. Surely this wouldn't be allowed. Helen Mirren was very good in portraying the Queen. No one really knows what happened in the royal household when Princess Diana died and by the end of the film, I couldn't really see the point of it.
I went to see this film yesterday and really enjoyed it. We will never know if any of it was true but even if only a small ammount of it is I feel that the Queen was railroaded into the 'celebrity' funeral that Diana had and I think that is incredibly sad.
Actually maggie01, I understand that the reason why the Queen loves Balmoral so much is because it's the nearest she can get to being a 'normal' person - well, normal with a massive estate to roam around on anyway.

I remember seeing in one of the documentaries about her - she visited the local shop near the estate and bought some provisions and paid for them - which is unusual for her - as a rule The Royal Family never carry money, anything that needs to be paid for is dealt with by a member of staff, so it must be a novelty for the Queen to be able to shop like the rest of us.

Imagine, she's never ever ridden on public transport, never been on a tube, or even walked down a city street alone, not a life I'd swap for, even with the money.
