Maybe this should be in another section. Sorry if it should but I do relate it to TV shows at the end. It is my understanding that both sides in a telephone conversation must hang up or the exchange is kept open and neither side can 'dial out' or accept new calls. What of the numerous TV shows when one side is killed whilst on the 'phone?

I'm pretty sure that the person who makes the call can end it and then dial out, but if the recipient of the call hangs up and then tries to dial out the call can be kept open by the caller as long as he doesn't hang up.
Just to clarify... If I call you, you can't end the call and then ring somebody else if I refuse to hang up.. Or at least this used to be the case.
Yes your still correct gazza but i think there's also a time limit on the call so that if there's no noise on the line it cuts off after a certain while though i may be wrong on this.
At one time the caller needed to hang up to break the connection but now if either party hangs up then the connection is broken.
