Just been watching re-runs of QI on UKtv - one had Jimmy Carr on it - does anyone think think this guy is funny? What has he got going for him?

No, he is not funny. And he has little going for him. He reminds me of an overgrown schoolboy. Thinks he's funny, but is oooohhh soooo pathetic.Give me Morecombe and Wise any day! They understood comedy.
Love him. saw him live 3 few years ago in edinburgh (before he was on TV very much at all) and he was hilarious, actually tears streaming down my cheeks, funny. At the end, as I was heavily pregnant and slow to move, I was the last to leave the venue. He stayed on stage and spoke to people as they left (as he had done when we all filed in) and he chatted away to me and my friend for quite a while and was absolutely lovely as well as very off-the-cuff funny. Like many comedians, his on stage persona is exactly that, an ON STAGE persona. Seen him twice since at larger, less intimate venues, and of course you lose that closeness to the audience which worked so well for him, but I still found him very funny indeed.
I detest the man. I am not a violent person but have the urge to smash a frying pan into his smug face every time I see him.

Each to their own.
lmao - honestly ethel, in "real life" he was just lovely, really friendly and warm and even asked about my big bump :o)
I agree with kick3m0n. I understand that he's not to everyone's taste but if you can get over his on stage/screen persona his humour is very funny. He used to have a Sunday morning radio show on XFM which was really good and far more relaxed.
