And therein lies the foundation of the church's power.
The meek will never inherit the Earth.

If the meek ever do inherit the earth they will wear the expensive frocks and silly hats too as a reward for waiting so darn long.

Surely dressing up fancy doesn't mean one isn't meek. Perhaps they are well meek, and 'hiding behind' the fancy dress?

Coupled with an insufferably smug expression it does.
Wonder why the Church's devoted flock never seem to think of questions like that?!
Question Author
naomi, flock is the word, just a bunch of sheep. Well seen !
Meek = poor in spirit, therefore it does not refer to material poverty. In the bible, to 'inherit the earth' is the same as inheriting the kingdom of God, or experiencing His eternal rule. His kingdom is "not of this world", means that it is not of this 'worldly order' or of this age, but rather 'of the age to come'.

In true theological sense, the possessions in your question and hence the question itself is irrelevant, but Christianity or .... THE church is an easy target so I imagine this is where you are aiming, it is easy to mock something you don't really understand.

Bleesed are the cheesemakers.
I hadn't finished...

and

Blessed is the person who, having nothing to stay, abstains from giving us worthy evidence of the fact.

Cheese-makers ? Would that be Cheeses of Nazareth ?
Question Author
Poor in Spirit ? Would does that mean? It doesn't sound very praisworthy.

Have you read Revelation 18. All about Babylon the Great. Its an organisation that deals with the Kings of the earth [ governments] and the travelling merchants of the earth [ big business]. In God's own time. governments will turn on this organisation and big business will mourn 'her' passing. This can only be false religion. Look at the description of 'her'. Verse 12 "12 a full stock of gold and silver and precious stone and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet; and everything in scented wood and every sort of ivory object and every sort of object out of most precious wood and of copper and of iron and of marble;

Purple and scarlet. Very familiar. And wealth!

Octavius makes a point about the meek. It is mentioned in the Bible at Psalms 37; 9-12, 29 & 34 "(Psalm 37:9-12) For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth. 10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. 11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. 12 The wicked one is plotting against the righteous one, And at him he is grinding his teeth.

(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.

(Psalm 37:34) Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, And he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. When the wicked ones are cut off, you will see [it].

The 'meek' are not 'weak'. They are obedient.
