Martial Arts movie from the 80's, searching for movie name?

All I can remember from this movie is a young martial arts expert taking part in a sort of race, and in one scene he trains by walking up and down stairs on his hands! Can anyone help me with this, not the best of info on the movie but it was about 12 years ago when I last saw it??? Also near the end he beats some bad guys by doing a gymnastic move on two bars.

When you said race I immediately thought Pikli Fo with Jackie Chan, but that was from the 90's. I know it rings a bell especially the stair walking. It's gonna bug me as well now.
