Of the top ten

1. Marlon Brando

2. Johnny Depp

other than that

De Niro and Pacino were joint 5th or 6th

Katherine Hepburn was in there as was Spencer Tracey. Cant remember who else sorry! I know Sean Penn, Edward Norton and Susan Sarandon were in the top 20.

1st was Marlon Brando

2nd- Jonny Depp

3rd- Anthony Hopkins

4th- Laurence Olivier

5th equal- Al Pacino & Robert DeNiro

7th-Richard Burton

8th- Judy Dench

9th- Kathrine Hepburn

10th- Spencer Tracey

mkt- that's a different list to the one given out last night.
hmm so it is! sorry if i mislead anyone with that link!
Funny how Brando is way down the list on the one mkt told us about but at the top of the current one (pothtumus respect to the man). But did you notice the lack of living female presence in either list?
Its a better list than the C4 one as Brando was crap. Deniro & Pacino were far better
I know these shows can never be taken seriously being heavily biased towards current stars and all, although thats a pretty good top 10. personally i'd have pacino and de-niro in front of depp, solely on the amount of work they have done on screen compared with depp so far... but as ever with these lists was a bit puzzled how for example kate winslett and helena bonham carter could be regarded as better actresses as bette davis and vivian leigh etc etc
I really love Johnny Depp, but was a bit dissapointed that the whole De Niro/Pacino debate was side stepped by putting them equal, I suppose it is personal taste in the end, they both have done some truly fantastic acting so I suppose in the end they are both equal. At least Johnny Depp has many years left to impress even more andI do like the fact that he does not do the whole Hollywood thing as De Niro/Pacino seem to avoid.
I meant that De Niro/Pacino don/t seem to do the Hollywood thing sorry
You couldnt really argue with the top 10, its all subjective isnt, its order is very debateable though, for me, at his peak, De Niro was amazing. However I think at the moment Sean Penn is easily the greatest actor of his generation. Johnny Depp!!, yeah hes very watchable, but his films are a touch lightweight. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Also James Cagney deserves a real mention, a true superstar with magnetic presence on screen.
Sean Penn came in around number 11 or 12
Yes that works , just take the p thing of the end.

I don't particularly like him myself but I must admit Tom Cruise was a surprise omission.

patc - James Cagney not being in was a crime.

patc7641 I agree, De Niro is a real favourite of mine but Rocky and Bullwinkle??, I have to mask that from my mind ha ha. On the nose withe Sean Penn, Mystic River was a really moving film and so well acted by all the cast.

Loved Depp in Fear and Loathing and Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, just my personal choices I might add
