I can think of 15 acts who have had some success following their appearance on a reality TV show -- are there any others?

David Sneddon, Sinead Quinn, Ainslie henderson, Malachi Cush, Lemar , Alex Parks, Gareth Gates, Will Young, Michelle McManus, Sam & Mark, Chico, Girls Aloud, One True Voice, Cheeky Girls, Shayne Ward.

But how many of those mentioned in the question have gone on to have success over a sustained period? Will Young and Girls Aloud, and to a lesser extent Lemar. Even Gareth Gates seems to have gone quiet now (thankfully). Too early to tell for Shayne Ward and Chico The Freako (please don't let that idiot anywhere near a recording studio ever again. I mean, I like a joke as much as anyone, but really...)

Where are the others, and indeed Steve Brookstein, now? Instant fame does not often seem to lead to a lengthy career.

Agree with littleoldme, plus I have never heard of Malachi Cush, Sam and Mark, Craig Whatsisface or Claire Lawler.

I guess it depends how you measure success.

What about SMTV presenter Brian Dowling?

James Fox and Alistair Griffin, both had more success I believe than the likes of Sinead & Malachi.

Well, if you count any sort of talent contest as a "reality TV show", which apparently you do, then yes, quite a few successful acts came out of shows like New Faces and Opportunity Knocks.

when I posted this question I put it under the title Reality TV Music shows -- although I left out music from the main part of my Q. I was referring to Fame Academy, Popstars, XFactor, Pop Idol et al.Judging by the names mentioned, quite a lot of people have had success in some form or another from this medium. I just hope that Simon Cowell doesn't decide to do a best of reality tv music shows album.
