Sailed through it last week, today dropped out early but still believe I was right and they were wrong.

Only on AB do I come across people such as I've never met or heard in my life. It's fascinating. We seem to have a quite a few who would say the sentence

'Where in Wales can you see whales, which beach, when and what do they eat and why do they live there?'

as

'hwere in Wales can you see hwales, hwich beach, hwen and hwat do they eat and hwy do they live there?'

How do you say 'whom', Prudie?

hoom

I agree 100% with Corbyloon @ 23.40!

Barry I feel you are getting the wrong end of the stick, I'm not arguing, I have just never heard anyone say those common words with the H sound. Maybe becasue I've always lived in the South?? I've no idea.

We can't use English to make our point ie comparing whom to why, that's like me asking how do pronounce cough, bough, dough, slough (of skin) etc etc. It's a rum language.

Question Author

I'm not arguing either, Prudie. I pronounce it as hwooom which would probably be indistinguishable from the way you say it to most ears.

I'm just surprised you haven't noticed the hw sound on TV or radio

I think 1% Club is good for the brain.  Very clever.

Question Author

I have found this series easier, many of the questions have the same format and structure as the previous series.

I'm with Prudie - I've never heard the "h" first, in life or on the TV or radio.  I guess I've yet to meet these people that speak so strangely 😉

I answered the question with "why" & I agree that "ell" works, but my brain missed it.

I got the 1% question about as quickly as the contestant & agree that the series so far has been relatively easy.

Question Author

Wasn't that question asking for a common word? I wouldn't say 'ell' is a common word.

It might only be crossworders that think it's common 😊

But your point is quite correct, Barry!

I did get the answer why but only just in time as I went through the alphabet from A. I admit I stopped on ell for a second but I thought it was an archaic measurement and unusual so carried on. The question did specify which common 3 letter word.

Question Author

I did same as you, Prudie.

Did anyone else get the National Anthem q wrong? I said 2

No, I said 5

Well I haven't seen it yet but it must be 1 surely- King for Queen

I  got five for National Anthem. Didn't do as well as last week.

The one I found trickier than others that followed was the jigsaw qn

Oops and him for her
