I used to record programs purposely because I knew I could fast forward through the adverts.

But I have noticed in the past few weeks everytime I try to fast forward it brings up a message fast forwarding is not available for this channel, but it doesn't seem to matter which channel it is.

This also happens if the phone rings and I pause live tele, but when or if I try to press fast forward to catch up to live tele or just fast forward a tiny bit, it refuses to do this.

Is there something wrong with with my system, it is a BT tv box, or is this more disruptive rules?

Hope Virgin doesn't do the same, I haven't watched an advert for years

So is this unique to BT boxes? I imagine it to be a rule that will become across all platforms like Sky etc

Apparently you can fast forward recordings in aerial mode, not internet streaming

It's BT and EE.  They've obviously accepted cash incentives to do this

if they do it on sky there'll be no point having it.

Sky charges £5 a month to skip through ads if you have Sky Glass

I have sky Q you can still zip through ads for no extra charge.

Thought for a moment this was another Rosie Jones grumbling thread.

Indeed, advertisers are not going to shell out millions to finance TV companies whose viewers skip the ads without watching, and being persuaded to buy, by them.

I would think software to prevent that was a given for the TV companies to ensure essential revenue was forthcoming.

Seems like we will be force fed adverts even if we record programmes which seems ridiculous in my opinion. I don't pay attention to advertising anyway, I tend to shut off mentally.

In my opinion we pay enough towards watching television so its a shame to be bombarded with adverts.

Maybe we need to protest and stop buying the tv licence?

The TV license is to fund the BBC they don't show ads.

I've been skipping ads ever since I bought a video recorder in the very early 80s, it's not a new thing.

ITV wants people to pay for ITVX

After you press pause on live tv just change channel for a moment, then go back to the channel you were watching and youll find its caught up

Janzman, great idea, but my point was I used to purposely record programmes to watch knowing I can fast forward through the ads, but now I can't even do that which I find unfair really.

No doubt the advertisers think your skipping their ads is also unfair.

I never buy anything based on an ad anyway.

If we rememberd all the ads we see each day and bought their products we would be broke.

I personally have a pet hate towards ads, we shouldn't be bombarded with them via the media when I pay enough for a tv licence and other subscriptions, Netflix, Sky, etc etc.

Ads are everywhere these days, even some radio stations, its crazy!!

If you don't shop at Aldi, for example, how would you know you could buy product X for £2.50 less than in Asda without the fact being advertized?

Corby, I use Trolley.com for that information

Fair enough but what about split-new products?

Advertizing brings them to a wider audience.
