Watched the final episode today, I must confess to having trouble following the rather complicated storyline ….what was the significance of Morse, sitting alone in the churchyard with a loaded gun, then a shot was heard ??? Any theories, please.

Hi Steff wasn't quite sure that the link would work, but it's OK. Don't know whether it helps?
I think it signified the ending of Endeavour so he could morph in to the beginning of Morse.

Or he could have been playing Russian Roulette

Glad I wasn’t the only one ….thanks Margo.

Barry I like your explanation of young Morse, morphing into the older version …Russian roulette doesn’t sound like Morse to me :)
I preferred the first suggestion, too.
Loved seeing Morse's car pass Endeavour's, then John Thaw's eyes looking back
Also, Endeavour was singing the same piece in the same choir in that final episode as Morse did in the first of Morse
