is what we have all been waiting for! Long may it continue. What is the point of analysing moves long after they have happened? Just need to know who is kicking the ball to who and who has scored.

Football without the football might be even better.
^ Agree 100% Lankeela.
Makes you realise of how little consequence it all is
2 completely dead programmes, not enjoyable at all.
I haven't been waiting for this. Love to hear other opinions, explanations and a bit of chat.
As LiK says...dead programmes.
The removal of Pundits would suit me fine.
I'm waiting for the tennis to start on TV. Wondering if Nick Kyrgios will be a pain again this year.
Didn't watch last night's MOTD, but have just watched tonight's. If this is the way forward, i may as well watch the 'highlights' of matches on 'Flashscore' - usually about an hour after the match.
Ditch all the pundits. Pick an impartial 'presenter' who just presents and at the end bids you good evening. Enjoy the games, if that is your thing.
As Ken says, you can watch football highlights anywhere and everywhere theses days.
There is no point to a programme like MOTD if it’s just going to do that.
For everyone who claims they like to sit through silence there are hundreds more who like the banter and the analysis.
It’s actually really at least half the point of MOTD.
The weekend format was making the best of a bad job.
It isn’t the future
It reminds me of a Lockdown reversal, seems very odd. I watched the United game in full with commentary yesterday but MOTD... not for me even though Sat show... Lineker, Shearer and Write clearly don't like Man Utd so better we're playing on Sunday's ;-) but do like their opinions.
Lol I agree with NJ at 22:52.
Why post on a football related thread?
Why do people post on any threads arky? On soap threads abers who actually hate soaps have a pop and make uncalled for comments - that's AB for you. And I'll post where I like!
There is a definition of a pundit, possibly originating from horse racing. It goes: a person who can take 30 mins before the match to tell you exactly who will win , and then take the same time to tell you exactly why they did not.

Pointless babble imho, and in no way worth millions per year
Since the format has been in place for so long, it is clearly what the MOTD audience want, otherwise it would have been altered.

I am not a football fan, but if I was, and I was watching highlights of a game, I would appreciate the analysis and comments of an expert to assist me in understanding what happened, and why, and how.

If I was not interested in any such assessment and analysis, I would not tune into MOTD anyway.

Ergo, people who tune in do want the analysis, which is why the analysts are there.
Not watched motd for years now. Got sick of the posturing smug, jug eared, smarmy user long ago. Made a point of switching it on, even recorded it :)), this week. Instead of 90 minutes it was done and dusted in 20. This means that every week the compulsory tax called a "licence" is being squandered on 70 minutes of drivel, and self regard in public being postulated by half a dozen half wits at our expense. I do not need their self congratulatory views on what I have just seen being analysed to destruction, sometimes on repeated slomo, when watching a repeat of a game that I know the result of. A game that I have played and watched before it was even on telly. This outmoded model of a National Broadcaster is past its sell by date and is stinking the airwaves out. Tell me ... if it did not already exist because of the vagaries of historic( now hysteric) circumstance, would it be the template for a new broadcasting service. I think that is less than unlikely.
Well said Togo.
Togo - As I have said, the fact that the format has remained unchanged for decades clearly indicates that this is what audience wants.

Clearly you are not a member of that audience, but the show suits enough people who are for it to remain unaltered for so long.

If it's not broke..
