The screws holding the hinges to my upvc windows are looking in a bad state(rusty) and could possibly snap off. I need to try and replace them before that happens. I might have trouble getting the old ones out, if so there is room to re-drill new holes. My question is, what type of screw do I use, and what size normally is used. Thank you.

Perhaps unscrew one and see how it looks? If the head is a superficially rusty but the screw is sound, then leave well alone. Don't look for problems?

Firstly I would heed and echo what Athiest said.

If the rust is superficial smear the screw heads with grease, petroleum jelly etc
