Due to me being a neo-liberal equal rights champion, I am confident the next James Bond and/or Doctor Who will come from an ethnic background. If I am wrong, it shows we still live in a racist society.

Both castings should be named in the coming months so let's hope for this positive change.

There are 6 regular characters in MI6 throughout the James Bond series (Bond, M, Q, Felix(CIA), Miss Moneypenny and Tanner. Only 2 are ethnic - Felix and Miss Moneypenny, and one is gay - Q. We need a black Bond now!!!

We have never had a black Doctor Who.

Idris Elba for James Bond
is q gay? i never knew that
Chiwetel Ejiofor would make a brilliant Dr Who
As for females - Thandiwe Newton would make a good James Bond character and a Dr Who.
Question Author
For me, Richard Ayoade for Doctor Who. But perhaps he is too eccentric already?
Get woke-Go broke
All these super duper revisionist films lose money.
I blame the audiences.
James Bond is written as a white man. Why change it?
Bakerwales- Chiwetel Ejiofor has been my call for The Doctor ever since Tennant left. I think he would be magnificent, but I can't see him taking an all-consuming TV role now.
I have read all of Ian Fleming's Bond books. He is white male. Do we really need to change this?
Naomi- The Bond movies moved on from the books years ago. Although I'm no huge Bond fan, I feel someone like Idros Elba would do a great job- not because of his colour, but because of his ability and charisma.
I notice they only take over 'goody' roles.
A bit like wimmins wanting equality in the good, cushy jobs.
Not so keen on the dirty, hard jobs.
Not that I blame them.
Idris Elba would make a brilliant Bond.

Richard Ayoade would make a brilliant Dr but I think Robert Sheehan would also be great as Dr Who.
Mozz, that could be said of many actors but there's something to be said for authenticity. I can't imagine a white Kunta Kinte would be applauded - no matter how charismatic.
Spicy- not sure about that. I've seen Elba and Ejiofor play many bad guy roles (unless you mean in the Bond films- then you may have a point).

Most actors love playing bad guys. It gives them a chance to really cut loose and ham it up.
Didn't Idris take over a 'white role' in his latest film. And it flopped.
I will probably get lambasted for this but how can a female play James Bond? Its so over the top macho and frankly misogynist, there is no way a woman could play that role convincingly. As for Dr. Who -Jodie Foster was terrible, not because she was a woman, she was just terrible full stop. The black woman who played the 'alternative' Dr. Who in a couple of episodes would be the obvious choice for me.

Always believed Ashley Walters (Top Boy) would make a decent fist of Bond were he chosen.
And, given that the Dr is inter-galactic, he/she doesn't necessarily have to be English?
^^^ Jodie Whittaker lol! Jodie Foster would probably have made a good job of it.
Naomi, the difference between Kunte Kinte and James Bond is that for the former, his ethnicity is essential to the character and plot of Roots. For Bond, his ethnicity is irrelevant.

Of course you are correct that many other actors have the ability and charisma to play the role, but while someone like Idris shouldn't get the role because of his colour, it shouldn't rule him out either.
