I would imagine it is, Ellipsis. I know quite a few who've been in and out during their lives and i haven't heard any tales of such extreme behaviour. I do suppose, though, it all depends on which prison you get sent to.
When you read about the sort of nut cases that get sent to prison I imagine it's more like the worst of last night's drama. Especially those who are regular "guests". Sean Bean, as a teacher who'd killed someone whilst driving when drunk, was excellent I thought and Stephen Graham is never anything but.
I just hope there isn't a 'twee' ending with everybody living happily ever after.
Sorry, not for me. I turned it off after about half an hour.
Isn't jimmy mcgovern an ex com?
* ex con
No he’s not. He’s worked with prisoners inside prisons doing writing workshops and other things.
Nice to see Sibhoan Finneran too. She is an excellent actor.
Jimmy's writing talents bring out the human side of the character so well and to me it set it apart from being just another prison drama.
We will watch it tonight, probably. You know it's going to be good stirring stuff with those talented actors and writer.
Does anybody know who i am getting mixed up with? Wasnt there an ex prisoner who after he was released became quite successful?
Difficult to find now, Piggy but I am sure that he accidentally killed a man and served four years in prison.
Dave now tells me I'm mixing his history up with a story. I'm not so sure.....I recall many years ago him saying what his time in prison had helped him to do and achieve.
Dog with bone! I'll keep looking. Not that it matters...just curious.. :-)
Dave now tells me I'm thinking of Jimmy Boyle. Could be who you were thinking of, Piggy. There was I, convinced it was McGovern.. :-)
I too thought McGovern was a an ex-con with a violent past - but having had a good dig around I'm now pretty sure that I'm confusing him with Jimmy Boyle.

McGovern does state in recent interviews that he has 'never been a prisoner' and I'm sure that would have been exposed as a lie if he actually had.
Well at least your digging around, Dave, gave you a break from chewing on eucalyptus leaves.... ;-)

Thanks for putting us right...x
Has Dave morphed into a Koala bear, Gness
A panda, Tilly so I was wrong about the leaves I guess. :-)
Panda...Bamboo. :-)
Those are the ones, Tilly.
