Just wondered if there are any free ways to do this? He emigrated there in the 60's and I'd like to know if he is still alive.

I have no experience myself but have heard the the Salvation Army are quite helpful in such situations.

can't find any that you don't ultimately have to pay for, some give 2 weeks free trial?
Would he be on Ancestry? I could check although I'm no expert. It does have some passenger lists for example if he sailed there.
Question Author
I have managed to trace him on the passenger list, he emigrated in 1967, but I lost contact with him years ago and would just like to know whether he is still living, but don't know whether the free sites we have, cover NZ.
Question Author
Prudie, do you have Ancestry. I could give you some details if you have.
they have ancestry sites in NZ, Australia... but like all you have to pay i think.
I do Barsel but as I say I'm not that good at it although I have been able to build my family tree quite a way back. I'm not actually sure if it has overseas records. I don't mind looking at all (if you don't mind putting something about him on here)
Good luck with your search.

Thanks Mamya. Emmie it says it's temporary unavailable for NZ.
Prudie, the info I can give you is his name; David Walkden. Born 1939 in or near Manchester . He emigrated to NZ with his wife Beryl and their daughter Julia in 1967. He divorced Beryl and married someone called Karene, but I don't know when that was. Many thanks.
Question Author
Thanks bookbinder. Sad news, but I'm glad I know now. I would never have thought of searching on there.
Sorry that's a sad end to your search Barsel x
Question Author
Thanks Mamya. x
Ah me too Barsel, just read the above
I'm sorry that I had to be the one to bring the sad news.
Question Author
Please don't feel sorry bookbinder, I did know years ago that he was quite poorly, so it didn't come of too much of a surprise, and it was something I wanted to know about . Thanks to Bobbs also.x
Yes also sorry but now you know. He is on Ancestry but only his birth, marriage to Beryl and a passenger list (if it's the same one) that arrived from Sydney on 8th April 1958. Did he visit Australia before he emigrated?
Question Author
Thanks Prudie. I honestly don't know if he visited Australia before he emigrated, but I know the link bookbinder put on is correct as I remember the name of his wife and daughters. Sorry you had to go to the trouble of searching your records for it, but thanks anyway. x
