We had the heaviest rain I have ever seen today in south Devon. I have never ever seen anything like it. It was pouring off the roof like Niagara Falls. Best of all. When I went in the living room it was pouring in through the ceiling and round the lights. I have had a really exciting day ringing my insurance company. Apparently the roof is not insured. But someone is coming to have a look a week tomorrow. I feel so sad for those people who got flooded last year. A really terrible day !

Sorry about your problem, sounds like hell!
How come your roof's not covered by your insurance?
Just thought...is it a "wear and tear" reason? Probably covered if it had blown off completely!
How can your roof not be insured? Its part of the house, if your house burnt down would they only pay for the four walls to be constructed and not the roof? Does not seem right to me.
Water coming into the house after a downpour is not 'wear and tear' -its water damage.

Apparently it is only covered for storm damage that is if the roof is blown off I have argued all day But will be changing my insurance provider when it runs out

An electrician is coming tomorrow to check the electrics But my carpet is damaged and it looks like the ceiling is going to come down
Bobbie is that written in your Policy? The roof may not be insured but damage caused by water getting into your home should be - your ceilings and any damaged furnishings should be. Thats awful.

Yes apparently they are dealing with the other parts eventually But I don’t know when all my furniture is in the middle of the room

I live on my own so it has been a bit difficult
What a dreadful situation Bobbie, the insurance situation only adds to it really.

Hope you soon get it sorted.
bobbie, have you told them what condition your ceiling is in ( sounds dangerous ). If it is in a dangerous condition they should put you up in a hotel.

I don’t think it’s quite bad enough got that Tony It’s cracked and bulging about 2 feet across
Question Author
It’s needs to be sorted though
Might be a good idea to poke an hole where it's bulging to let any water out. Have a bucket ready though.
Threaten your Insurance Company with the Insurance Ombudsman, they will change their tune then.

Good suggestions from you both thanks x
The rogue insurance companies, like so many other companies, are cynically taking advantage of the Covid restriction to deliberately make things difficult for claimants, especially those living alone and/or vulnerable. They should be bending over backwards to help (as they shamelessly claim in all their marketing).

Can you name them here so we can all avoid them in future ?

Good luck in sorting it all out (I had a similar experience when a pipe burst in the loft of a house I was buying after the vendor had moved out but before completion so I was legally barred from entry).
Hoping you managed to get it sorted. It sounds terrible. Good luck.
Have you got a friend or neighbour who could help you? I really feel you need to get something sorted with the problem of you ceiling which could come down.

A friend is calling in tomorrow. He is a really clever and determined guy who will get on the phone and hopefully sort this out for me. Thanks for all your replies. I really appreciate
your kindness You would think
That the insurance companies would try and help the oldies wouldn't you
