They cast actors in movies and tv shows. If you don't know what they do, I suggest you don't train as one. There are too many media wannabes out there.

A casting director is in charge of finding the appropriate talent for a media production which fits the needs of the director.  They can be hired by a director or a studio to assist with hiring actors or extras for a film or other production.  They will work with the director to understand their needs are and then they may work alone or with a team to hold casting calls and auditions in order to find and hopefully hire the right people for the production.  This would be a really exciting job for you if you can break into it.  Get involved in some theatre or short-film and see if you like working in that environment and if you posess the skills necessary. For this job, you would need to be a good leader with excelent communication skills, good character judgement and  be able to liase with the director or other individuals, you would also need to be able to work well within a team and independently to achieve outcomes and be able to make level decisions and have knowledge of the media industry.

It's good you have a goal and want to train.  I suggest you read up on casting and media jobs, you may find many that interest you.  It is a massive industry and it is always growing so there is always work out there provided you have the training and skills for the job.  There are so many exciting jobs in media.  p.s: Just for the record, I work in the media as a marketing consultant and have worked on various projects and productions, some of which most have never heard of!  But one which I am very proud to say I was a part of.  I was the lead marketing director working on King Arthur.  So you see, you never know where your ideas will take you.  I started as a small-time marketing consultant fresh out of a uni-degree and the next thing I know after getting a few contracts in the movie biz, I've marketed for an epic film!  Don't let people like the previous poster put you down.
