I had assumed it was repeats of previous series. Just downloading ep1 now.

When I first saw it advertised I too thought it was a repeat of the first series. It's not - but it's not a sequel either.
Question Author
Bear with it, Cloverjo. It develops. We've just watched episode 3.
Ah thanks, Naomi. I’m enjoying it so far. Will carry on.
Question Author
Enjoy! We are.
Bit scary/freaky but good. I’ll watch ep2 tomorrow.
I've got the the first episode downloaded but haven't got round to watching it. I watched the original Penny Dreadful's a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.
Without giving anything away what is it about?
Premise from the Wiki page.

//Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is set nearly 50 years after the original series, during the Golden Age of Hollywood in the 1930s. It takes place in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place "deeply infused with Mexican-American folklore and social tension".The characters are connected in a conflict between the Mexican folklore deity, Santa Muerte, the caretaker of the dead and guide to the great beyond, and her spiritual sister, the demoness Magda, who believes mankind is inherently evil and aims to prove her point. Detective Tiago Vega and his partner, veteran Detective Lewis Michener, are tasked with a gruesome murder case and soon become embroiled in Los Angeles's history as well as its present, while racial tensions, the looming threat of war, and Nazi conspiracies threaten to derail them at every turn.//

Oooo .... we watched episode 4 last night. Oooo ......
Ooh, looking forward to it already, Naomi.
Must start this tonight.....
Question Author
Rory Kinnear is in it Tigger - the actor who played Frankenstein's monster in the first Penny Dreadful.
Oh good, Naomi. I like him. What about Eva Green?
Question Author
Eva Green isn't in it - but I'd have sworn it was her doing a voice-over at the beginning. Natalie Dormer (from Game of Thrones - my husband tells me) is the female lead and plays four different characters - superbly. It really is very good indeed... well, we think so.
Ah, ok. Natalie Dormer is a great actor. Loved her as Anne Boleyn in The Tudors.
Question Author
Tigger, Eva Green is in another series - ‘The Luminaries’. We're enjoying that too. We like her.
