Can anyone remember World Of Sport on ITV with the likes of Dickie Davies?
Does anyone know what time of day it used to start on a Saturday?
Many thanks

Early afternoon? When I first watched it the highlight as always the wrestling, particularly Mick McManus, and the teleprinter.
I think it was 12:30 but I may be wrong
//A typical edition would be broadcast between 12:15 and 17:10 and would take on the following format.[2]

12:20 On The Ball - football preview with Brian Moore and in later years Ian St. John and Jimmy Greaves.
13:00 Sports Special 1 - A wide array of sports, often including clips from US show Wide World of Sports. Less prominent sports such as darts, snooker, bowls, water skiing, speedway, rallying and others would also feature. Sometimes Boxing would also be shown in this slot.
13:30 Racing, The ITV Seven.
15:00 Sports Special 2 - see Sports Special 1.
15:45 Half-Time Scores - the half-time scores from that day's football, plus racing results from races that had taken place in the previous hour.
16:00 Wrestling - a mainstay of the World of Sport schedule from 1965 until it ended. Many of the wrestlers featured became household names in the UK and the greatest rivalry was between Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks
16:45 Results Service - all the full-time football scores, match reports and league tables plus the last of the day's horse racing results.//

just after lunch with "on the ball" with Brian Moore, then a slot usually featuring a lesser shown sport - maybe darts or snooker before they went mainstream in the 1980s, rallying, water skiing, etc. then the ITV Seven, and followed by another sports special slot. the half time football scores preceded the wrestling at 4pm, with the results service at 4-45.
Used to love the ITV 7 because there was always consolation payouts on the first 5 winners and first 6. And, believe it or not, I actually managed both on occasion:-) However, that was back in the day when there wasn't as many meetings per day as there are these days.

Thankyou all for your kind and informative replies.
Speaking of Giant Haystacks - there is a wonderful story about how a teacher pulled his son's hair at school, and said son advised, as sons are prone to do, that he would 'bring his dad down ...' and the teacher, as teachers are prone to do, advised him to proceed.

Mister Ruane, all six foot eleven and thirty-nine stone of him, duly appeared to speak to the teacher, and said -

"I understand you've pulled my son's hair. I've just come down to tell you that if you do it again, I'm going to come down and pull your hair. The difference is, if I pull your hair, I'll probably pull your "@+*ing head off with it."

The teacher's response is not recorded.
yes I can, they went opposite grandstand, used to show some niche sports etc, wonderful.
This might be of interest:

I can remember the wrestling was prefixed "Ken Walton" - not sure why, I know he was a wrestler but no idea why he was headlining the show.
I used to love the rallycross from Lydden Hill
With his lovely laid-back DJ's broadcasting technique, I think that Kent Walton would have been highly amused by the idea that he was a wrestler himself, TTT ;-)

12:30 and straight in with some Big Daddy.
I was young! dunno why I thought he actually was a wrestler! bit like sid W for darts! Although was he an actual player at some point?
I think the wrestling sometimes came from somewhere up Derby Street or Dean Road in Bolton on Saturday afternoon TV, I used to love watching it.
^^^ Wryton Stadium (which was actually the old Palladium cinema), on Higher Bridge Street, was Bolton's wrestling venue in those days.
World of Sport and the wrestling, loved it

Hadn't the wrestling used to be on a Wednesday evening as well in the 60's.
ITV7 with John Rickman and Ken Butler.Better presenters than sycophant Ed Chamberlain sucking up to Sir Anthony McCoy and that irritating knob Matt Chapman.
