TV is a spare, around 10 years old ... Number on remote is BN5900865A and has been fine up until today, we only use this TV occasionally. Remote channels only go Up so can't go down again to ITV and watch football ... On number 25 at moment! Have changed batteries, volume works OK. Is this a problem with remote or tv please? Should I buy a compatible remote from eBay??

Can't you type in the channel you want temporarily?
Question Author
Type it in how? I just press the number .....
LOL! OK, then, can you not press the number of the channel you want temprarily?
Question Author
No ... Numbers won't go down on remote, only up! Not temporarily or permanently!!
Like Jim, I'm confused!

If you want ITV (on Freeview) for the Bulgaria match, you should simply need to press 3.
Is there a 'Channel Down' button on the set itself?
"Numbers won't go down on remote, only up!"

Nope, that still makes no sense to me! How can the number buttons go up if they won't go down first?
Question Author
No buttons on the front of the set at all, even power is on the remote only, which does work. I am pressing all the channels manually on the remote, 1,2,3 etc. and they don't work, and on the Up and Down arrows on the remote, only the Up works!! The number on the back of the set is LE32B450 C4W. Do you think the problem is with the remote or the TV? Thanks.
On many (most?) TV sets the channel numbers cycle through anyway. i.e. if you keep going 'up', the next channel number after the highest one stored in the set's memory will be 1 again, so you should be able to get to 3 by 'going round the clock'.
>>> No buttons on the front of the set at all

Who said anything about the front? It's on the side! (No 4 in the diagram):

Yes makes sense, I will try it and report back ....
Question Author
Yes that worked ... Went up to 1000 before BBC1 ... So I can't do that every time! So what do you think is the problem?? Thanks all
You could try a restart,,,,if you are sure that the batteries are good and that there is nothing spoiling the infra red signals. Try this.
Remove the batteries from the remote for at least twenty seconds, then press the power button on the remote(without the batteries in) . Replace the batteries and turn the TV off and on again at the switch. (ie. not on standby...off at the mains). After that if it is still not working properly you may need to pair the remote with the tv again. Yo do this by holding down the two matching buttons on the tv and remote for about 5 seconds with the remote within 12 inches of the tv. If this does not sort it the rubber mat contact on the remote is probably dirty and not making contact. If you have the patience it is possible to open up the remote and clean the metallic contact on the rubber mat and the contacts on the circuit board and hey presto.

Thank you ... I have seen a compatible on eBay for 3.95 ... Would that be a good idea??
It's good to know that my post at 2045 worked.

If the one at 2052 does as well, you probably need a new remote. i.e. the problem would appear to be with the remote, rather than with the set. Alternatively, if you're only using the set occasionally, you could probably just keep using the button on the side of the set anyway.
If you buy a new remote you will need to pair it with the tv set anyway.

Thank you all for your help.. Togo l will try your suggestions tomorrow and Chris l will look for buttons as well. I am suffering football on 'my' tellie tonight but nearly finished now .. Ha .
Probably doesn't hurt to get a spare universal remote anyway. I'd look for recommendations were I you, rather than just find the cheapest. And when not in use, keep with all the instructions on pairing it to a TV. It can be very frustrating and time consuming to find your spare remote and not know how to set it.

Well I bought a new remote from eBay £3.95 out of curiosity ... Batteries in .....Didn't have to pair it... Works perfectly now. Thanks all.
