i have someone sending me large files (less than 1gb each) but she has a crap internet and i dont want to be clogging up her machine while shes doing this.

I know there are options like Dropbox and WeTransfer etc, but are there any other options that are particularly good for someone with bad internet speeds etc?

thanks :)

However she uploads the files, and wherever she uploads them to, it's going to be the same amount of data going through the phone line, so I can't see any obvious solution (other than putting them on a disk or memory stick and using snail mail, of course). Compressing the files, using 7-zip or similar, might help a little but it's unlikely to make a really big difference.

However the way that an ADSL connection (which I assume that she's got) works is that it reserves a certain amount of internet capacity for uploads and a bigger bit for downloads. So the person sending you the files should still be able to use their internet normally while uploading the files, as most web browsing involves downloading, rather than uploading.
You can get programmes that split files into smaller portions. Some require the receiver to also have the same software to reassemble the original file from the parts. Others create executables that run to reassemble itself. Have a web search. It's been years since I last used one.
