I had a very simple set up of a few icons on the opening screen of Windows 10.
All this has altered now and an extended list of desktop icons are on the right of my screen, which I do not want.
Also underneath the start key, top right (used to be bottom left of screen) is a rolling bar which I have to scroll through to find the opening google page which I want. Before this happened, this page just opened up automatically.

I don't use Windows 10 but the option to personalise your desktop has always been available in any version of Windows via right-clicking on it. So that would seem to be a good place to start.

I don't quite understand the bit in your post about the opening Google page but it seems to me that all you need to do is to have an icon for your chosen web browser on your desktop and then to configure the start page you'd like to see from within your browser's settings (rather than adjusting anything on your desktop itself).

Thank you for your answer, Buenchico. I am not explaining myself very well - you can tell that I know nothing about computers.
All the desktop icons, usually hidden away on the opening up page are now shown in a list, whereas they used to be hidden. I can also see larger versions set out when I reduce the initial page, which is fine
