This has been addressed before, when one of the pro dancers on strictly visited a pro same gender dance couple. Same gender competitive dancing has slightly different rules from what we see on Strictly. One of the differences is more equality in lifts and similar moves. Both partners have to lift and be lifted, also the lead must swap between the dancers and they are judged on how smoothly and appropriately this is done.

There were female Morris dancers as far back as the 16th Century, a few are around now too.

"Back in the day" men DID dance together. Anyone here not recall the 'rockers' dance where they would stand facing each other with their thumbs in their belts, bending from the waist, side to side (their quiffs never moving), to the beat of the rock song they were listening to?
