Surely it's only too 'over the top' if you allow it to become so, we had a really good Christmas/Boxing Day, relaxed, good food and as many drinks as we wanted, but no way was it OTT.
I didn't go over the top. Just a couple of family members for a few days. I love to see them, but it's quite hard to entertain, feed and water people continuously for that time. Back to normal, now.
It's good to let yourself go for a couple of days but it's nice to be back to the routine. 'Entertaining' is hard work! There are so many aspects to it.
We didn't go over the top but were witness to people who did at a boxing day lunch. They were drinking shot after shot of a vile liqueur based short then collapsed in a drunken heap. Maybe its a generation thing ( they were my daughter, her partner and friends) but its not my idea of a good time.
We did Tilly, Family, and we visited many people that did not have a chip on their shoulder!! they were "nice" people that could come out with a simple answer to a Q, but there we go.
No lol, our friend just come out for a few drinks, they had already eaten, think they were all full to the brim, they answered a Q that was similar to the OP but answered with the same as I.
We only went over the top with the Turkey, and I'm glad its over. Every year we say we'll spend Xmas somewhere warm and get waited on had and foot, but we always end up at home with a turkey big enough to feed the village.
